When designing the outside entrance, we felt that the large columns flanking the front door were a very important design element. We saw the opportunity to hand craft and customize the columns on either side. The structural element is obviously to support the canopy over the front entrance but its design, use of light and symbolic meaning are what make these columns so very special to our clients.
Each 7ft column is made out of 4 aluminum panels finished in anodized bronze. The perforated holes on each panel are actually poetic messages chosen by the family. The messages have both sentimental and spiritual significance.

The impact of the light through the columns can be seen in both sunlight and in the evening. During the day the sunlight subtly projects the shadows of the message. At nightfall, there are a series of lights centered on each column angle which highlight the message and give a beautiful soft ambiance to the space.
To us, the columns were an opportunity to define the entrance into this home and give the family a truly customized element. An important structural element has now been transformed into a hand crafted sculpture. They are no longer just columns, they have become a sentimental focal point to this home. Design...is all about the details.
