Since the Style at Home issue, things have been very busy at Capoferro and we are trying to catch up on our updates. The office is a buzz with consultations, design meetings, site planning meetings and we have even hired new staff to help with our projects - it is a whirl wind but we love it!
This update is one we are excited about. Back in the summer, we installed a "super skylight" at our project north of the city. There are so many myths about skylights. It produces glare, it produces excessive heat, and it’s just too expensive. Despite these misconceptions, we are confident that effective natural lighting design has many benefits. Sunlight naturally filters through the skylight opening into the room, allowing almost up to 5 times more light than a regular window. No need to turn on the lights - it is the perfect alternative to artificial lighting during daylight hours. Skylights can provide interior living spaces with the warmth and brightness of natural daylight when properly placed.
This particular modern skylight was custom designed and fabricated for our client. It is composed of 30ft x5ft glass made of 2 panels. The panels are so large they were lifted to the roof with a crane and took several men to install. From the interior, the skylight provides natural lighting to the glass staircase and family room. It is strategically placed on top of the glass staircase to allow the natural light to penetrate the entire home from top to bottom. Our designer, Francesco, choose this location to act as architectural element that distinguishes the home into 2 distinct areas. The public wing (to the east) and the private wing (to the west) in the design. This time lapse video shows the installation of the skylight as well as some other activities on site. The masons were busy installing the stone which is now complete and the crew is installing the custom bronze roof cap.
